Zamboanga as the Philippines
I have nothing but pity in my heart for the Chief Witness for the State. She is the victim of cruel poverty and ignorance. But, my pity does not extend so far as to her putting a man’s life at stake, which she has done in an effort to get rid of her own guilt.
~Atticus Finch, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
Election fever heats up in the Zamboanga with former Governor Antonio Cerilles representing UNA in a do-or-die campaign against the Liberal Party.

Club Elite
When my government makes policies that create a richer, smaller elite, I must now be suspicious of the candidates it pushes, the legislation it creates and the manner by which it executes the laws.
A government whose obvious bias is for the rich cannot be trusted to keep the interests of the majority of its people in mind nor can it be relied on to protect the weakest members of society.

The Free-est
Some members of the mainstream media have no idea of what their obligations are.
Under international law, even the opinions of columnists in newspapers can constitute evidence of a state practice.
Thus, those opinion writers who are so quick to defend what is rapidly becoming an indefensible administration policy on Sabah have overstepped their bounds by calling the Kirams act of returning to Sabah as an “invasion.”

When promising education
WHEN politicians and their wannabes promise in these elections that they will prioritize education, what exactly do they mean? Because if they’re promising more of what our current public school system is getting, we’d like to politely inform them where they can put those promises.

Mayor Co’s Camp Reacts to the Accusations
Mayor Co’s camp reacts to the accusations blithely thrown by parties interested in the outcome of the political race in Zamboanga del Sur.
STATEMENT:
The person or persons making baseless accusations that Mayor Samuel Co is allegedly planning to offer bribes to prosecutors, are doing so in order to cast aspersions on what they fear will be an imminent acquittal. In doing so, they directly assail the integrity of the prosecutors of the Department of Justice and indirectly, that of Sec. Leila Delima.

This way to the hot seat, sir/madame
With election season onto to us in full force, social media has shown us only one disturbing thing. Few – if any – of the candidates advertise their platforms or programs for their tenure. Instead, the air is littered with song and dance routines, wilted motherhood statements, vague promises and ego — lots and lots of ego.
And people have been responding with the jaded askance of the couldn’t-care-less.

In a complaint addressed to DENR Secretary Ramon Paje, the tribal council sought the immediate issuance of an order suspending mining and quarrying operations in the firm’s mining site in La Fraternidad village, Tubay, Agusan del Norte because of the “imminent danger it poses and continues to pose to residents.”
They complained of the health hazards to residents and for
the firm’s closure of the Tubay National Secondary Coastal Road for the firm’s
own use. The council complained that SR Metals Inc. illegally appropriated the
public road and has not allowed anyone to use it to the extent of setting up
check-points and denying access to anyone, including local executives from
Tubay town.
